Out For Fame & Queens Creation exhibitions

August 12 and 13

+ d'infos
It is in 1999 that the Under Pressure showcased the first edition of Out For Fame. This exhibition adopts the title of graffiti movement iconic song New York rapper KRS-One. It was the first graffiti culture inspired exhibition presented indoors in Montreal and featured renown graffiti writers such as Dyske, Other (aka Troy Lovegates), Martha Cooper, Henry Chalfant, Flow, Chrome, Duro3 and many more.

15 years later, the exhibition is still of topic. It is a real tribute to the movement and its contributors and puts aside their differences to reunite on one common interest: writing and graffiti. Through a collaboration with the collective Art by Friends (FR), Out For Fame mobilizes an international community from graffiti with artworks that come from the 5 continents. The collection has been presented in: Montréal (CA), Toronto (CA), Annecy (FR), Lyon (FR), Bruxelles (BE), Geneva (CH) and Noumea (NC).

Queens Creation is an annual event created in 2013 by the CICU – Convention interna- tionale de la culture urbaine that celebrates the work and contribution of women in the urban arts culture. Breaking down barriers and eradicating stereotypes in what is falsely considered a predominantly male culture. Nevertheless, this culture counts on the pres- ence of more and more women, in visual arts, in dance and in music.

This year, Queen’s Creation comes to the Under Pressure festival and will feature a few dozen or female artists from graffiti, street art, low brow and illustration influences. The artists are free to paint whatever they want but they must include the title « Queen’s Creation » to their work.

A street dance cypher will be held during the opening night, on Friday August 11.

August 12 and 13

+ d'infos
Through its history, local and international music artists have participated to the festival. United by the movement, they make way to Montreal by their own means. This year, Under Pressure will feature more than 50 deejays and 20 emcees and will offer a variety of styles that go beyond Hip Hop, which includes a scene that will be completely dedicated to electronic music. In doing so, the festival seeks to add new mem- bers to its family, discover new talents and renew its programming.

Great novelty this year: The closing concert will not be presented on Sun- day night at Foufounes électriques. The 22nd edition goes back to the roots of Hip Hop and presents a mega bock party on Saint-Catherine East Street. The headliners this year are A-F-R-O et R.A. The Rugged Man. A-F-R-O is a 19 years old promising rapper from California. He has been discovered by R.A. The Rugged Man, a New-York rapper who worked beside rappers such as Mobb Deep, Wu Tang Clan, Notorious BIG and producers such as Erick Sermon, DJ Quick, The Alchemist, to only name a few.
