Despite my undying loyalty to this magical duo since their collaboration, Mos Def & Talib Kweli are Black Star in ’98, and the fact that their tracks are still on my current playlists, I have yet to see them live.
Mos Def and Talib Kweli hold a special and permanent place in my heart reserved only for hip hop. Yes, I have a big heart. Why do they have a stronghold on such a prime piece of blood pumping real estate? Perhaps because Black Star’s album dropped when my love of hip hop was still floating off the high of the golden era or maybe because during said era, as individual artists, they had already established respect with The New danger and Quality. Or, maybe because they have worked with and have been influenced by some of the heaviest industry hitters to date (I’m not name dropping, do your own research…) but have still managed to be consistent yet innovative style wise whilst never forgetting the roots that sprung from the seeds they planted.
